About the Library

Sandia Prep’s library is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Its staff consists of two professional librarians, an academic technology
coordinator and a library technical assistant. The library holds a collection
of 15,000 books as well as materials in many different media formats (video,
audio, CD-ROM, etc.). There are subscriptions to 40 magazines (paper);
more than 1,000 newspapers and magazines are available on CD-ROM or online
(accessible through the library’s home
page).
The library offers a complete computer resource center that enables
students to perform word processing (on ClarisWorks and Microsoft Word),
build spreadsheets (with Microsoft Excel) and create presentations (with
Microsoft Powerpoint) that may be displayed on the library’s smartboard.
The computer center also facilitates Internet access for research; through
it, students are able to reach the Univ. of New Mexico’s Zimmerman Library,
the Univ. of New Mexico’s medical school library and the Albuquerque Public
Library card catalogs. The library’s home page offers links to a number
of carefully selected curriculum-related web sites to help students with
their research. Additionally, they have access to several online databases
— NewsBank, UMI (formerly Proquest), SIRS and EBSCO — all are subscription
services Prep has purchased. Finally, the library offers (on CD-ROM) both
Grolier’s and World Book electronic encyclopedias, the Dictionary of American
Biography and a world atlas.
